Our web site shows plans for several designs that float and run in a few inches of water but all are outboard powered. some of them have a tunnel. when it comes to inboards, a few boat manufacturers produce mostly large tunnel boats but that type of hull shape impose a large penalty on performance.. Construction of the boat is in stitch and glue style with 3/8” hull bottom panels, deck, seat and fishing surfaces and ¼” plywood everywhere else save the transom. there is a lightweight framework truss in the hull beneath the deck to give the boat longitudinal strength.. The tunnel hull is a strange 'bird'. while the tunnel derives much of its high performance from air lift, it depends at the same time on its planing interaction with the water to maintain a stable and controlled 'flight'..
Maneuvering your tunnel king is a new sensation if you are used to conventional boats. the boat tracks straight as an arrow, but when put into a turn, the hull remains flat and level responding quickly and positively to your action on the helm. tunnel king can be powered with moderate to high horsepower single outboards.. Our tunnel hull boat plan is not an exact copy of the atkins tunnel boat design, it is a blend of the rescue minor with some later designs and the lines have been fine tuned to allow for easy building in plywood.. The most advanced publication on tunnel hull design, how a tunnel hull works, and detailed explanation of design and setup for tunnel boats, power cat, or modified vee hulls. for all recreation, performance family hulls, utility/fishing hulls, uim & apba race hulls or even rc models..
